Biodiversity World

The Biodiversity World project (BDWorld) is creating a GRID-based problem solving environment for collaborative exploration and analysis of global biodiversity patterns. The project builds on previous experience with pre-GRID interoperability in biodiversity (LITCHI, SPICE, etc.) and the GRAB project (see below). Biodiversity information is stored and indexed using complex dynamic concepts such as species names and geographical areas. The project will provide tools to find information resources, and accurately formulate queries and requests to these resources in the face of conflicting species classifications, geographical terms and descriptor terminology.

Investigators: Professor W A Gray, Professor N J Fiddian, Dr A C Jones and Dr R J White (Cardiff), Professor F A Bisby (Reading), and Dr M J Scoble (Natural History Museum).
